Opera 6.X Browser & E-Mail Setup

The vast majority of the options that you will
need are in the regular "Preferences" option just below
the "Quick Preferences" option.
- Select "File."
- Select "Preferences."

When you open the preferences window
for Opera, you will see the following page.
In the "Start" section you can
set your "home page."
In the "Exit" section the last
checkbox gives you the option to automatically disconnect from
the Internet when you close your Opera program.
- Click on the "E-mail" option just below
"Programs and paths" to setup your e-mail.

If you can't use Opera for e-mail
(or don't want to) then choose your default e-mail client in the
second option.
If you are going to use Opera for e-mail then do
the following:
- Select the "Use Opera account" option.
- Click on the "New" button
 |
- Name the account after your e-mail address.
- Your "Full name" can be a nickname or a
fake name.
- In the e-mail address box Enter your full e-mail address.
- Put a checkmark in that last box for showing totals in
the Hotlist. (This will tell you how many e-mails are in
your mailboxes.)
- Click the "Servers" tab.

(example: if your email address is elf@southpole.com
your mail server would be mail.southpole.com).
- Set the "Protocol" to "POP3."
- Make sure the "Port" is set to "110."
- In the "Username" box enter the part of
your email address that comes before the '@' sign.
(Example: if your email address is elf@northpole.com
your username would be elf.)
- Enter your password.
- In the outgoing section enter the same server name that
you used for the incoming server.
- Select "SMTP" for the "Protocol."
- Make sure the port is set to "25."
- Click the "Incoming" tab.

- Select "Check for new e-mail every" and
set it to "15" minutes.
- Select "Delete e-mail from server after retrieval."
- The remaining options are can be set to your needs.
- Click the "OK" button.
